Playing eloguessr
eloguessr is a chess rating guessing game for entertainment. These terms describe the rules for using the game and submitting content or inquiries.
The rating shown is the rating recorded for the featured game. It is not an assessment of your own chess strength or a guarantee of a player’s current rating.
Guesses and crowd results
Each browser can submit one guess per challenge. Accepted guesses are locked. Daily challenges close at midnight UTC; the game shows the reveal time in your local time zone.
After the challenge closes, players who have guessed can see the recorded rating and the median of original daily guesses. Practice guesses on older games reveal a result immediately and do not change that crowd result.
Participation is remembered using browser storage. Clearing it, changing browsers, or changing devices can prevent the site from recognizing your earlier guesses.
Fair use
Do not manipulate crowd results, bypass guess or request limits, disrupt the service, attempt unauthorized access, or submit unlawful or abusive material. Automated activity must not interfere with other players or the operation of the site.
Submitting a game
Submit only public games you are permitted to share. A submission asks us to retrieve and review the game for possible use as a daily challenge. Submission does not guarantee selection or a publication date.
Verification checks the game against Chess.com’s public archive. It does not verify that the submitter owns either player’s account.
Third-party content and advertising
Third-party names, logos, and chess assets remain subject to their owners’ rights and applicable licenses. See About & credits for game sources and chess-piece attribution.
Links and advertising may lead to services operated by others. Their terms and privacy policies apply when you use those services. Sending an advertising inquiry does not purchase a placement or create a sponsorship agreement.
Availability and changes
The service may change or be interrupted, and game data can contain errors. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or error-free results. Nothing in these terms limits rights or protections that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
Revisions to these terms will appear here with an updated date. Any additional notice or agreement required by applicable law must accompany material changes.
